This path is not the path”).
Tijdens Documenta 14 in 2017 (foto’s) werden de uitgangspunten van Ciudad Abierta in verband gebracht met het begrip aneducation dat ieder leerproces als een ‘open vorm’ beschouwt, refererend aan de methodologie van het Fins/Poolse architecten echtpaar Oskar (1922-2005) en Zofia Hansen (1924-2013): “Indeed, the program is less an attempt at a curriculum than a cacophony, a chorus of voices that not only speaks but listens, shifts, doubts, and dreams. It is a mode for unlearning, a nourishing act, a warm gesture that reaches out to the possibility of learning otherwise “Aneducation is a meeting point, where a series of erratic paths that track the question of the self in space, and the moment of unrelenting instability in which we live, intersect. It is an invitation to all participants to think with art to explore how it feels to belong to a community, to occupy a body, to speak a language, and to care, to resist and to persist.[1]”

“Once a settlement is built, there is usually one person or a small company of people that designates a certain place as being of interest. The interest may be that the river is fordable at this particular point or that certain raw materials are present (gold or oil, for example). For the time being, this interest is not a certainty. It could be that the current is too strong to cross the river here. There may be a good reason the raw materials were not yet exploited. At the start there are only suspicions. A joint effort is required in order to establish whether it is worth members of the group temporarily settling in that area in order to mutually benefit from what was at first only a suspicion. The settlers will also have to share the responsibility of maintaining the settlement long enough for the anticipated benefits to be brought about.
A learning situation can be compared to the building of a settlement. More or less by chance, a wandering individual or small group of nomads ‘discovers’ a place where a river can easily be crossed. Or where it is suspected that valuable minerals might be found in the ground. Or where a grave is discovered belonging to a person with a particular religious, political or historical significance.
It could not be foreseen beforehand where and when this might happen. There was merely a suspicion. By sharing the suspicion (the discovery), the discovery becomes not only of interest to the discoverer(s), but also to others” (EdJ, uit: “Old School, Nieuwe Klas” – zie “De didactiek van het Nergens Zijn”).
